5 Facts of the Week – May 6th
Happy weekend everyone! Some interesting things happened locally and all over the world this week. Read on to find out what you may have missed this week.
- Apparently 93% of Missourians support the legalization of medical marijuana. I honestly think this statistic is skewed, because only people who are very opinionated one way or the other vote in polls. Signatures have been coming in though and it’s possible that it will be on the ballot in November. You can check out some “statistics” here.
- Boulevard Brewing Co. and Tech N9ne have been working on a beer collaboration. It’s the popular Unfiltered Wheat with an island twist of pineapple and coconut. Bou Lou, as it’s called, is apparently “a party in a can.” It will be released at this years Boulevardia festival (June 15-16). I’m sure it will go fast, as it’s a limited release. I’ll let you know if I try it. Bou Lou Beer Collaboration
- This article does a good job of depicting the dangers of the volcanic eruptions in Hawaii. The Big Island is currently having volcanic activity and homes are being destroyed. However, it’s not just the active lava that is dangerous. Find out more here.
- On May 9th Malaysia elected Mahathir Mohammad, a 92-year-old to office. This makes him the world’s oldest elected official. It’s not like he came out of no where, he’s one of the former Prime Ministers of Malaysia. This marks a transfer of power that has been in place for 60 years in the country. Although there was much celebration by the people, only the future will tell how the shift in power will take place and if it will be smooth. Learn more here.
- Apparently the ocean was glowing off the California coast this week. It’s caused by aquatic organisms in the water, but scientists can’t predict when it will happen, and is pretty rare. Check it out here.
