Why I Use Aaptiv
If you’ve seen my posts for the last year and a half, you’ve seen me talk about Aaptiv. I honestly can’t even remember how I first heard about it, but at the time I was training for a duathlon by myself. I was fine to put in miles on my bike, but I was really struggling with training for the run. So what is Aaptiv? It’s an app on your phone that provides “on-demand audio fitness” with a personal trainer. You can pay per month or for a year subscription. Like most apps, if you pay for the full year it’s a cheaper price overall, but you have to pay it all at once.
I downloaded the free 30-day trial and figured if it wasn’t worth it, I would cancel as soon as I was done with my duathlon. It worked out because I had just under a month left until the race. I was using Aaptiv to train for my runs 4 times a week at that point. I found a few trainers I really enjoyed running with, and I put in the effort to make the training affective. I have to say it really helped me and I finished my duathlon (with a pretty decent time), but most importantly I succeeded with my goal to not walk at all. That race was a year ago, and I’ve been using Aaptiv ever since, and here’s why:
- the app is easy to use
- there are so many training programs (running a mile, 5k, 10k, up to a marathon)
- there’s so much more than just running (cycling, running, walking, rowing, stair master, elliptical, boxing, hit)
- they have EVERY type of workout (cardio, core, yoga, strength training, stretching, meditation, etc.)
- there is a trainer in your ear, with you every step of the way, helping you to help yourself, it’s a great way to push yourself harder
- most of their trainers are pretty active on Instagram and you can reach out to them with questions
- you can download workouts
- there’s always great music accompanying your workout
Here’s a look at what the app looks like and the types of workouts you can choose from just from the home screen. You can also use the search bar to search for anything you want. Once you select a category, you can sort workouts by distance, speed, incline, trainer, time, difficulty, etc.
When you complete a class you get the signature “confetti” fall, and you can rate the class. Typically the app will recommend a stretching class after your workout as well.
You can save all your favorite workouts in the favorites section so you can go back to them easily, as well as store workouts that you want to do in your to-do list. The app is really easy to use!
They also have the “Aaptiv Magazine” where they post articles about health, fitness, recipes, wellness, etc. You can check it out here.
I know I’m to blame for a few people being hooked on Aaptiv, sorry not sorry. They always have a free 30-day trial or anyone that has an Aaptiv membership can send up to 10 “Guest Passes” for a free month. While I personally enjoy the app, it’s not for everyone. If you try it let me know what you think!
