Top 5 Tips to fit in health/wellness while traveling
1. Plan! This may seem like a no-brainer to some, but planning will help you succeed. If you’re traveling all the time for work, your plan should look different than a vacation. What do I mean by planning? Check out your hotel and see what they have as far as equipment and amenities. Or you can travel with resistance bands, jump rope, sliders, etc. because they don’t take up much room in your bag and you can get a great workout from them. Also, make sure you determine how many times you plan to workout, and pack gym outfits appropriately. If you’re going on vacation be realistic, so you don’t waist space in your bag.
2. Workout in the morning. I know it can be hard to wake up early, but if you want to fit it in, this is the best time. Waiting until the end of the day will result in skipping more often than not. When I travel for work, we always end up having team dinners that take hours, and I just want to go to bed when we get back.
3. Start off your day with a protein packed breakfast. When traveling it can be hard to get enough protein, and starting in the morning definitely helps. Most hotels usually have eggs of some sort, if not hard boiled eggs. Whatever you prefer to eat for breakfast, start with some protein.
4. Pack snacks! There’s no need to end up hangry when you don’t have to. If you know you’ll have access to a store pack a couple things until you can get there. In my opinion, it’s always a better idea to pack a snack than go hangry. You can check out this post for some of my favorite travel snacks! P.S. I saw this sign in the Kansas City airport, and thought “take your own snacks, who wants to pay $14.75.”
5. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! It can be hard when you’re traveling to drink enough water, but it’s really essential to surviving. I always take a water bottle with me, because it can be filled up once you’re through security, if you’re flying. Otherwise, take a bottle and fill it up with water at restaurants or water fountains along the way.
6. Bonus Tip: Enjoy yourself! If this is a vacation you shouldn’t spend your day’s worrying about nutrition and working out. There’s plenty of time to be “healthy” when you return. You don’t gain or lose weight overnight and you don’t gain or lose muscle overnight. It’s a process, trust it!
