SPANX Booty Boost Active Bike Shorts Review
The SPANX Booty Boost Active Shorts were one of my first purchases in my quest for the best shorts. I purchased these shorts in both the 4-inch and 7-inch length.
- Don’t ride up (this is my number one criteria)!
- Compressive but not suffocating
- Soft/comfortable fabric
- High waisted
- Pockets are a major plus
So how do the SPANX shorts measure up?
SPANX Booty Boost 4-inch inseam
SPANX Booty Boost 7-inch inseam
The 4-inch inseam seemed short when I opened them, not sure why I thought they would be longer than 4-inches. The length doesn’t bother me at all though. I do find myself reaching for 7-inch inseam of these shorts over the 4-inch inseam a lot of the time, but overall I’d wear either of them.
I’ve worn these shorts for indoor cycling, leg day, jump rope, and every other type of workout that I do. I haven’t had any issues with them. They do tend to ride up a little (as do ALL shorts on me), but nothing becomes uncomfortable to me.
Update: I rode my bike to work last week and wore these under my dress (all day), but the end of the day they were really rolling up at the hem. The shorts themselves weren’t riding up terribly, but they rolled up. This is the first time this has happened, so I’d recommend the 7″ inseam option over the 4″.
The fabric is….really soft. It’s a blend of 60% Nylon and 40% Lycra Elastane. They aren’t a super soft brushed material, but still somehow really soft. Like the Look at Me Now Shorts, the fabric is really great at hiding and wicking sweat. No one will be able to see that you’re sweating (especially because they are black) and they dry very quickly.
The shorts are high waisted, and the waist band covered my belly button. Their website says that the “High-rise waistband that stays put during workouts,” and I have to say that I agree with that statement. I really don’t remember them rolling or falling down at all. I ordered and XS in both lengths and then returned the 7-inch shorts for a size Small. I can wear either size, but I wanted to try both of them. I’ll probably stick with a size small, even though (per their size chart) I’m comfortably an XS. The Small is a teeny tiny bit loose on my waist but fit my hips/butt better. Because of this, if you are in between sizes, I’d probably recommend sizing up.
What don’t I like…not much. However, the shorts only come in black and you know I’m a fan of colors and patterns! I wish they had more variety as far as that goes. The shorts also don’t have pockets, which would really take them up a notch. Overall though, for the price I think they are a great short. I’d give them an overall 8/10.

**Funny thing is, as I was looking up some of the details on these shorts I noticed that SPANX DOES have a new short like this one that has a pocket! Where have these been all my life, or the last 2 months!
A tip for sizing, I purchased my size based off of the size chart for the 4-inch inseam, and later bought the 7-inch inseam in one size up. They both fit, but I wonder if the 4-inch shorts would roll up less if I had gone up one size too. I guess we’ll never know. However, if you’re in between sizes I would recommend sizing up in these shorts.
